AHHH, the engagement session. I love engagement sessions… it’s why I include them in my wedding package. I firmly believe that it’s the best possible way for you to
practice being a supermodel get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day. Additionally, it gives us a chance to do some pre-wedding day bonding. In an effort to make this session as awesome for you as possible, I’ve put together a few thoughts to help get you ready.
Be on time. I rely heavily on natural-light, so it’s really all about timing. We’ll take a look at the calendar and make note of the time the sun will set. Scheduling your session with the best possible light will result in the most amazing images and there are certain times that are better than others. We’ll start there. Please take into account that traffic drama, a hair crisis or a fashion emergency will eat into your time.
Do some research (but go easy on the Pinterest). Send me your thoughts. Show me what you like. Using other sites for inspiration is good, but remember that many of the sessions that are published on these sites are styled shoots and aren’t real life sessions (read: people who model professionally). Let’s use them for inspiration, but we’ll put our brilliant ideas into action, too.
Find the perfect spot. If you have a good idea, let me know. Our goal is to find locations that reflect the two of you and are somewhere that you will feel comfortable. Have a crazy idea? Let’s talk it out. If you’re stumped, I have plenty of thoughts.
Bring a prop or two. Any good shoot is made up of three things: amazing models, fantastic locations and a few interesting props. Your engagement session is no different. We’re shooting your story, so anything that makes it personal for the two of you is fine by me. That said, if you’re bringing your dog, please bring someone else to watch that adorable creature while they’re not in front of the camera.
Get pretty. A new outfit makes everything better, right? There’s no right or wrong here, but in my experience, feeling done up and fancy will help both of you rock your session. It makes perfect sense to schedule your trial hair and makeup on the day of your engagement shoot. Still looking for a glam team? I know plenty of amazing people, so feel free to ask.
Cheers. A glass of wine or a beer (or two) is the perfect way to take away a little of your engagement session anxiety. If this sounds like something that you could get on board with, let me know and we’ll schedule a little time beforehand to help you get your game face on.
But mostly, it’s about having fun and taking some amazing photos… and we will do everything possible to ensure that we nail it. xoxo- mc
