Saturday, April 28, 2012 | 11:30 pm. I had just returned to Manhattan after shooting Katie and Joe’s wedding in Brooklyn. We were heading out to grab a late-night beer and I turned to my friend and said, “Just when I start to lose faith in forever, I shoot Katie and Joe’s wedding, and their love absolutely brings me to my knees. And then, just like that, I’m sure again.”
Katie and Joe are the kind of people that you need to know. The kind of people that your life benefits from. The kind of people who bring such an amazing energy into a room that you can’t help but adore them. But the most amazing thing is that they are BOTH that type of person. And they met each other. And they fell in love. And just like that… the world became a better place.
When she was getting ready in the hotel suite, Katie said, “everything in my life has lead me to Joe.” She’s right. And Joe—oh sweet Joe. When we even mentioned that we were going to get Katie for their first look, he wept. And not the kind of tears that his boys will give him hell about in the years to come. Nope, they were the kind of tears that remind you what the happiest day in someone’s life is supposed to look like.
There are too many wonderful things about this wedding to list—traveling to New York for a wedding. Taking group photos on an amazing pier in Brooklyn. The jewelry (omg, the jewelry). Knowing Katie’s little sister from our former retail lives. This ridiculously amazing song that Katie’s mom’s bridge group wrote especially for them, traveled to New York to sing and rocked tiaras and boas for. The food. The pashminas that Katie bought from a street vendor. The love. The pregnant bridesmaid (I love pregnant bridesmaids). The families. The grand entrance. The song Joey danced to with his grandmother. The toasts. It was just perfection—it was the perfect day.
Oh, and the super duper gift with purchase bonus is that I got to shoot a wedding with one of my best friends—the lovely Meg Miller. You, my dear, are a cupcake. xoxo.
