An open letter to my clients from 30,000 feet

An open letter to my clients:

Life happens.
It’s November. In the photography business, that means it’s as bananas as it gets. It feels like every time I leave my house, I arrive home with another 300-3,000 images to add to the que. And honestly, it feels that way because it’s true.

All of these amazing wedding, engagement and family session images pile up on the hard drives and start staring at me as if to say, “what the heck are you going to do now?”

My life is a pretty open book. It’s been a crazy few months in my personal life and as a result, my plate is full. I don’t outsource editing to a third party, so things have gotten backed up. But we are going to get it cleared up. Here’s how:

First of all, I’m not taking any more sessions for 2014. With the exception of a not yet scheduled studio day in December, the few sessions scheduled for next weekend and my two remaining weddings, I’m done. I won’t be doing any boudoir this winter, either. I’m simply at capacity. It’s an amazing problem, but a problem nonetheless.

Secondly, I’m taking a breather from preemptive blog posts until the list below gets caught up. It shouldn’t be long. Truthfully, outside of a full edit, it takes an entire day to do a wedding blog post. You can still expect to see some teasers on social media (I just can’t help myself), but your wedding or family blog post will come AFTER the final catalog is edited and finished. It’s the only way I’m going to plow through things.

For weddings, the process will go: teasers, full edit, PASS gallery, blog, USB delivered. For engagement and family sessions, the process will be the same, sans USB.

As a matter of full disclosure, I am traveling/shooting on the following days:

Sunday, November 2 to Wednesday, November 5 | NYC
I will be shooting, staying on top of email and doing a limited amount of remote work. You can imagine how difficult it is to take that work flow on the road.

Saturday, November 8 | Indy
I will be shooting Sara and Greg’s wedding downtown. I will not be available all day.

Sunday, November 9 | Indy
I will be shooting already scheduled family sessions.

Tuesday, November 11 to Thursday, November 1 | DC
I will be on a Molly trip with no camera and no computer. I will do my best to answer emails once per day.

Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16 | Chicago
I will be photographing a wedding and out of pocket on Saturday. On Sunday, I will be traveling and celebrating the end of an amazing 25 wedding season.

Otherwise, I will be editing. To keep myself honest, here’s the plan to get caught up:

Week of 11/02:
Jenny and Chris (full edit), Kayli and Grant (full edit), Kellie and Josh e-session (full edit and blog), Nikki and Justin e-session (full edit and blog), Julian family and Johnson family (full edits and blogs)

Week of 11/09:
Kiersten and Colin (full edit), Laura and Ronnie (full edit), Tara and John (full edit and blog), Hasch family, Mullen family, Chavers family and White family (full edits and blogs)

Week of 11/16:
Julie and Bill (full edit), Lauren and David (full edit and blog), Kelly and Luke e-session (full edit and blog)

Then, we should be all back on track and good to go.

I love you all. I’m sorry for getting behind my own eight ball. Being part of your lives is one of the happiest parts of mine.
